Fall into You

The night is falling over me,
Laying a burden on my shoulder.
I don’t think I will ever be free,
I can only grow older.

So demons whisper in my ear,
And your curse surges in my vein.
I wipe away a falling tear,
And lay in this pain.

The waves crash around,
Washing over my skin.
There is absolutely no sound,
The storm is about to begin.

And I am swept away by water,
And into the deep abyss.
I am a screwup, a simple daughter,
One who only hell will miss.

So the water pushes me under,
Pouring past my lips.
There is a loud clap of thunder,
Blood dripping on my hips.

Images flash like lightning,
And out explodes a scream.
The barbed wire is tightening,
And I am pulled into a dream.

Where you wrap me in your arms,
Whispering my name.
Kiss the scars on my forearms,
No longer the same.

The scars have split open wide,
Gushing the words you spoke.
There is no longer a place to hide,
Only a room full of black smoke.

So I breathe in the mist,
Peel off the hardened glue.
Paint a razor onto my wrist,
And then I fall into you.

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem while going through a very hard breakup. The last line, and the title-- "fall into you" are refferring to "flashbacks" or thinking about memories. I hope that people who read this poem that have also been through a breakup like this are able to connect to it and realize that they are not alone.
