Where I'm From.
I'm from family.
I'm from warm memories and love.
I'm from reassurance and care.
I'm from "It's okay, we'll accept you how you are."
I'm from support groups and friends.
I'm from laughter, and gifts on Christmas.
I'm from anger.
I'm from lies.
I'm from misogyny, prejudice, and gender roles.
I'm from "No, that's a boy thing, you can't do that."
I'm from Bible characters and stories of Jesus Christ.
I'm from hyper-homophobia in the middle of Walmart.
I'm from a changing enviroment.
As age increases, support decreases.
I'm from denial of new ideas,
And a firm belief that "We'll do it as it's always been done."
I'm from looks of disgust and words of slander.
"This is my house and I'll talk how I want."
I'm from pairs of brown eyes and mops of blonde hair.
I'm from tight hugs and arms wrapped round my ankles.
I'm from giggles past midnight.
I'm from tickle fights and pillow forts.
I'm from tears of joy and cheers of congratulations.
I'm from Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers on rainy Saturday nights.
I'm from discouragement.
I'm from a father scared of losing his little girl.
I'm from late night fights and tears shed on the kitchen floor.
I'm from the hums of a guitar trying to make things better.
I'm from "I feel like you're only getting worse."
I'm from contradiction.
I'm from new ideas.
I'm from an open generation.
I'm from oppurtunity and optimism.
I'm from conquering fear.
I'm from being who we were meant to be.
I'm from pushing past expectations.
I'm going towards hope.
I'm going towards a new beginning.
I'm going from "That's not very feminine," to "Mister."
I'm going away from the sterotypes I've faced.
I'm going towards freedom.
I'm going to make something out of myself.
I'm going towards "You look handsome today."
I'm going past the gender roles of before.
I'm going towards friendships and positivity.
I'm going towards repairing broken relationships.
I'm going to follow my dreams.
I'm going to be okay.

Being a transmale in a household that shuns all things LGBT+, I've expeirenced my fair share of adversity in my gender identity. I wrote this poem to express not only the opposition I've encountered, but also the pleasant memories I have related to home and the prospect of hope I have before me. I wrote this poem to sympathize with other LGBT+ teens or children that may have troubles at home, but also to remind them to cherish the good memories at home, and to keep their eyes focused on the future.
