Father and Daughter
It is 3:45, in Perth Amboy New Jersey , a Saturday
two days before New Years, yes
its 2013 and I was shopping
because I will soon leave to NYC
at 8 and go straight to eat at my family’s house
and I haven't met everyone yet like aunts and uncles
I walked up the snowy Smith Street when it started to rain
and had a cheeseburger and some fries and bought
a newspaper, USA Today to see what goes
on around the world theses days
I get on the train
and Gill ( so I over hear the little girl)
doesn’t even look up for his life
and we stop in Elizabeth, and I ask the man if he’s okay
he is sitting stiff and his lips are purple
and saw his daughter kissing his forehead
Penn Station, New York City
coming off the sto strolling to central park
I see Gill weak, and walk his way
give him some water and the half-eaten cheese burger
and fries I had in my bag
but it is too late
I am nervous and thinking what to do
carrying a stranger to his death bed
while his daughter whispers i love you
in between screams of panic
and she as well stopped breathing
