Make me fall in love with you in the fall
When the wind is just a little too cold
And everything seems bright
Against a grey winter sky
There’s something about
Autumn
That warms hearts like hands wrapped around mugs of freshly brewed tea
And makes kisses sweeter than cinnamon
Love me in the fall
Where our fingers are still bare
But colder than usual
Tracing trails on the backs of palms
To keep the heat alive at our finger tips
Love me in the fall
When the world is starting over
Where the trees are suiting up for a new year
Of ventures
Love me in the fall
When my words are a little truer
And every color is a bit more subdued
Faded to perfection
Like a Polaroid picture
Of the Empire State on our first date
Love me in the fall
But for my sake
Don’t hold on to me in the summer
Where salty kisses are too harsh
And adventure
Gives way to
Reckless portrayal
Don’t make me fall in love in the summer
Because i can’t devote a time of yearning
To someone who makes it so easy to be found
Love me in the fall
When I’m ready to return to you
Like discovering a long lost book
Leaving you Eager to turn the familiar pages
Don’t come looking for me in the summer
And I promise I’ll always run back to you in the fall.
