Triplet
When I hug you..
When I hug you,
in the split second where our worlds collide,
and your arms become the wooden bars of a cradle,
where your heartbeat is the metronome of my life,
the only sign that the world is still turning,
where your all-too-familiar smell fills my nose,
and burns a bittersweet something,
in the half beat where your breathing
is the only thing I can account for anymore,
because the ache in my chest is gone,
in the silence that’s just long enough,
to harbor an escaped tri-pl-et,
my heart speeds to staccatos,
and weaves a melody so fragile,
so fleeting,
it can only be happiness.
