Grandma
Eyes peacefully peering past the lenses of her glasses,
pour love on a scale unmeasurable.
The mark left permanently on my life by her hand,
keeps her health permanently on my mind,
Because, when the seizures hit,
and love is lost in a shaking fit of feverish pain,
my whole life crumbles,
and for once I cry.
When the trembling ends,
and she rests quietly in her chair,
the only thing keeping my own heavy heart
beating is the pacemaker inside her chest.
Forcing her heart to beat calmly against my own.
The pain in her heart is like steel spikes piercing my emotions,
leaving a scar on the mark she has left in me, strengthening our bond,
and I hope that the pain I feel for her may in some way lessen her own.
