Team 63
We had finally arrived
At our destination.
I was ecstatic about the fact
That I was about to play at Ford Field.
Our team,
Team 63,
Was the first to make it this far.
We were calm,
Relaxed,
And ready for the most important game
Any of us have ever played.
Walking down the same tunnel
That the NFL superstars
Like Calvin Johnson walk down
Was a surreal feeling, like getting deja vu
The closer we got to game time, the more excited I felt.
I was like a ticking time bomb,
Filled with excitement,
Ready to explode.
When I peered out of the tunnel,
To see the energetic crowd filled with the city of Clarkston,
My stomach started to tingle
Like your mouth when you eat pop rocks.
The end of the game was breathing down our backs.
With one minute left until our victory,
The euphoria started to rise within me,
Like a fire rising from the ground up.
When the game clock ran to zero,
The race was over, and we came in first.
I remember the ecstatic feeling
Knowing I just achieved
The dreams of my whole childhood.
I remember the roar of the crowd, erupting,
Further fueling our excitement.
Watching the whole crowd rise and cheer for our victory
Was like watching the formation of a huge tidal wave.
I remember watching my head coach shed tears.
We all shed tears with him,
As we accomplished something
No one else had ever done.
My body felt weak,
After needing so much strength
To make it to this point.
My body was taken over by happiness,
After needing so many tears
To make it to this point.
Although I felt weak,
The euphoria attacked me,
Like a lion attacking its prey.
I still feel the rush
That took to me to a new a level of happiness.
The vivid memories
Of throwing my helmet off in celebration,
And holding that state championship trophy,
Will never be wiped from my mind.
It’s like nothing can take away my happiness now.
Because I can wake up,
Everyday,
And know that I am a champion.
