My Mumma

She didn't give up on us.

She should've, but she didn't give up on us.

She, like 9 billion others, has not given up

on herself;

on us;

on David;

on me.

What?

9 billion choose to live

and the three of us get to be a part of that.

Because she didn't give up on us?

Because she kept us together?

Through the beating and the screaming,

the infidel and absolute hell,

the rejection of her flesh

and negligence at best.

At worst, the F*** Yous and fights

and cutting at night.

DSS, hospitalization, and burnt out lights.

She didn't give up on us.

Hatred from her kin and unforgiven sin.

Unreliability, stress-induced pain;

life-long pain, borne with love.

What?

"My medicine hasn't kicked in yet, Megan."

Patience;

dedication;

care;

selflessness.

She never gave up on us.

No...

She never gave up on her f***ed up babies.

There's a lot to be said about someone who doesn't give up on the people they love.

This is a thank you for my mumma. As broken as we are, she kept us together through the journey.
