Depression Awareness
She sits alone in the dark, cold room
Buried in her thoughts racing through her mind.
Her dreams and hopes dying to bloom,
But self-confidence she needs to find.
She raises the blade to her skin,
Wishing she could die.
Tears flow as the blade sinks in.
She begins to think why, oh why?
He arrives hoping to save her,
He wonders if he’s too late.
Everything is a blur.
Why did she have such self-hate?
Now, as she lies there limp,
He’s filled with disbelief.
He feels like a wimp
As he falls to his knees, filled with grief.
If only she’d known
How much she meant to him…
Maybe she could have grown
Instead of feeling so grim.
Everyone was devastated,
When they heard the news.
How could someone have such hatred?
There are no clues.
They dressed in black,
As they felt they should.
They were taken aback,
Into her childhood.
It’s all over now,
But no one can move on;
Nobody knows how.
How can she be gone?
Maybe now they can take a stand,
Help anyone that feels worthless
And lend a helping hand.
They can end the badness.
She now rests in peace,
Buried in the ground.
Her heart was made of fleece,
She never made a sound.
Her depression killed her,
Along with their haunting words.
She held in her anger,
As she fell backwards.
Depression/bullying awareness
Is not a joke.
It’s complete seriousness.
Depression makes you feel heartbroke.
Don’t let your words take a life,
It will be blood on your hands.
Words can pierce you like a knife.
So please, take a stand.

This is very personal to me. I used to cut. I had attempted suicide. But what truly inspired me to write this was the movie 'BULLY'. I was very moved and touched when i saw that movie. Not only did it remind me of my past, it also pushed me to be honest with myself and others. I am not ashamed of my past. Do I wish things could have been different? Of course.
I hope this piece inspires people to take a stand. Take a stand for those who have comitted suicide due to bullying. No one should have to endure that pain. Everyone, no matter who they are, is beautiful inside and out.
