The Seeker
As I slave away in the kitchen, washing crusty dishes,
I can’t help notice my dad in the living room
On the other side of the doorway.
He sits on the edge of the couch
With his computer on his lap,
Frantically typing on an endless journey to find a job.
Light flows through the towering windows behind him
Creating a dark silhouette of his slumped body.
His only visible feature being the glare of his glasses.
The drip dropping of the faucet is interrupted
By the tap, tap, tapping of the keyboard
And the clicking of the mouse.
As I watch a sea of questions fill my head:
Will he find a job? What will the future hold for us?
Will he find something he loves to do?
My mind, as vast as the ocean,
Is overwhelmed with thoughts about what lies ahead
As wave after wave of doubt and fear hit me.
All I can do is stand by the running sink
And wish for him to finally end his extensive voyage
In the sea of recession.
