"Aye bro, wanna pose for a pic?"
"Hey girl, did you see her tweet?"
Throwback Thursday, Woman Crush Wednesday, Flannel Friday
#followme #like4like #selfie
"I can't even"...begin to see
why our generation feels the need
to lose ourselves to the disease that is technology.
Let’s take a brb to reality
to find what we teens cannot seem to see.
Instead of taking selfies,
why don't we channel that energy to seize
a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
No need for documentation
for your memory will bring back the sensation.
Beyond the wide, wide fantasy of
Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Vine,
lies a world that we too often ignore
because we hide behind screens.
We "friend" people without even knowing their last names.
We freak out over "followers" and "likes" to win the popularity game.
We waste hours and hours on Netflix and Hulu
where we cover our dreams with blankets and back-to-back episodes.
We send page-long texts of emojis like some kind of code.
So why do we allow technology to devour our lives?
Can’t we just ttyl, g2g, b-y-e, power down, and live to the fullest
by having some pride
by putting down that camera, ipod, and T.V.
and making the change,
for that smartphone is no match
for the potential that already lies within your brain.
