The Broken Us
I did not say anything.
I did not think honesty was a necessity.
I thought it was known, obvious.
Obvious, that we were more than friends but less than together.
Obvious, that I cared for you.
We used to laugh together.
You used to bring out the best side of me.
The honest one.
The one that didn’t care about looking perfect.
The one that was me.
Just me.
You destroyed the possibility of the existence of an us.
Ruined my faith in the potential of our future.
Faith is the trust I had in you.
The faith I had in us.
The faith that was lessened when you didn’t try.
Lowered when you didn’t ask.
Gone when you went to her.
Vanished when you told me.
As if I’d congratulate you.
Congratulations, we are gone.
You have reached me.
You have the power to hurt me.
I have been broken by your words.
Torn apart in my own confusion.
I do not understand.
I cannot comprehend.
Your unintentional heartbreaking news has damaged me.
Damaged my view on Us.
On you.
The affect of your words goes beyond the simplicity of letters put together.
Of words.
We have been ruined by your actions.
Destroyed by your unclear vision of my feelings, my hope.
The hope that my dreams, my longings, for an Us would someday come true.
My hope has disappeared with your words.
