Favorite Quote:
What horrifies me most is the idea of being useless: well-educated, brilliantly promising, and fading out into an indifferent middle age.

Be a doctor,
they said.
It makes good money.

Be a lawyer,
they said.
You’ll have a stable income.

Have a family,
they said.
It’s normal.

Conform,
they implied.
You won’t be looked down upon.

Don’t have tattoos,
they said.
You don’t know what you want.

Don’t get a nose piercing,
they said.
You’re too young.

Don’t be a writer,
they said.
You can’t support a family on that.

Don’t follow your dreams,
they implied.
That won’t make you normal.

I'm doing a multi-genre project in English. I chose to write a poem about conformity and how it can affect your dreams. My own personally. Being a writer, getting a nose piercing, and dozens of tattoos. That's my dream, what's yours?
