Devil's Castle

Looking down the mountain
all I see is soft, thick, white.
I sit in a chair of cold
watching my dad
hike the rest of devil’s castle.
Then I start,
snow shooting
from my skis into a cloud
in front of me.
As it hits my face,
I think to myself,
This must be what heaven is.
About ten turns later
the joy ride of my life
ends with my smiling
dad below me.
I ski into his outstretched arms,
then look up and say,
“That was fun,”
as we start down the long
snow-covered road
into the distance.
