Icarus's Wings
I am barely holding on, everything that is important
Is slipping away. Strapped to Icarus,
A young, but foolish boy, together we soar just like a bird.
Moving as one, we glide over the gleaming and glistening
Ocean feeling pure freedom. Without warning, I feel
Icarus extend his arms more and more, moving towards
The sun. Soon, even my durable wax could not withstand
The unbearable heat, and I knew we were in trouble.
The rushing of the wind rang loudly in my ears,
As we descended through the clear blue sky.
Time seemed to stand still, as the child of a great
Inventor sank towards the Earth, quietly but quickly.
The surreal plummet ended as we crashed into the waves.
On impact my feathers were birds scattering from a tree
At the sound of a gunshot. I was in shambles and
Icarus did not resurface. In that moment, I knew
This was the end of Icarus, and I would never fly again.
