never give up, never regret

In high school you can care about anything you want

Just make sure it’s along the lines of saving children in Africa or rescuing pandas in China
And its essential to pretend like you don’t care
Say it’s just a “hobby”; you know, “nothing serious”
Because the second you show it
The second you devote yourself,
You are a totally one-sided freak

In high school, when you get good grades
Its because you were “lucky”
Its because you genuinely find evolution/or quantum physics/or Shakespeare INTERESTING
It has nothing to do with the fact that you had to obsess over little details
Made thousands of flashcards
Studied 5 hours the night before and
Had a tutor help you edit your paper

In high school you are told to look at the bigger picture, consider your life as a whole, long journey
Just make sure to ace that test tomorrow
Polish that essay before 2nd block
Memorize that song
Win that soccer game
Read your history book
WHILE you SIMUTANEOUSLY look at the bigger perspective

In high school, you can do all the activities you want
Unless it helps to get you into college
Because if it is beneficial in that application process, that is the ONLY reason you could possibly want to do that activity
It has nothing to do with the fact that
Your teammates make you laugh
It has nothing to do with the fact that
Standing on stage makes you feel alive
It has nothing to do with the fact that
You actually love representing PUMAS

In high school everyone is equal, welcoming and friendly
Just make sure to seat with the same people everyday during lunch
And only comment on FB posts that are “socially acceptable” for you
Make sure you only flirt with the guys “in your league

In high school we rally creativity and freedom
Just make sure to buy the same clothes from Nordstrom
Or H&M
Or 4ever21
Wear the same backpacks
Proudly hold our identical Starbucks vanilla lattes

In high school we want confidence but can’t help thinking that
the person sitting next to us has the same skill set as you
the person sitting across from us want the same grade as you
the person sitting behind you want to go to the same college as you

In high school we are promised individualism and personal attention yet are punished for speaking your mind
Scolded for being 2minutes late to a class
Reprimanded for not following the line by line instructions designed for the masses

In high school we are encouraged to pursue of passions yet are
assigned 3 hours of hw
everynight
on top of the 8 hours of school
everyday

In high school we are told that we are young and should learn from our mistakes
But don’t make too many mistakes
You need the A
You need to be “responsible” for you “actions”

In high school we are told to stay in the moment
Just ignore the fact that you slept 4.5 hours last night finished that bio lab
Just forget the itching throat and the runny nose
And yeah, eating healthy?
Who has time to make a “balanced” sald/fish combo when you have a physics test first thing tomorrow

In high school we are told to prioritize
We are told to consider the things that are most important to us
Unless it involves family, spending time with friends, walking your dog and enjoying your holiday
Those things don’t count because you’re not getting a grade for it.
It won’t be on your transcript
For the ever important colleges

I’m tired

The author's comments:

I tired to be as blunt, straightfoward ,and frankly, as brusque as possible
