Childhood
On that bright beach by the Cape,
Our toes, legs, waists submerged in blue as we squealed:
Dad's hair darker, his unshaven chin like porcupine quills,
And we were younger too, so he said,
"The sea creatures you fear,
Fear you even more."
But we still tried to jump over the crashing waves.
Seagrass caressed our legs, and
I discovered the sand held a message
In a flask from the Emerald City, delivered
To the warm shore.

A poem called Adolesecnce-l by Rita Dove inspired me to write this. It reminded me of my own childhood; the times my family and I visited Cape Cod in the summer. My poem is in a similar format.
