Bare With Me
Dry, dusty, nothingness.
The road cuts through the desolate land,
going on forever.
Gnarled weeds run across,
trying to escape,
lost in the vast nothingness.
In the distance gleams a city,
like a lily in a graveyard,
it stands alone amongst the barren wasteland.
Dead trees lie alongside the road,
unmarked graves dot the landscape.
The crows sing their death hymn.
The city stands still in the distance;
the trees swaying hypnotically,
the water glistening under the blinding sun,
and a glow of life from the beautiful city.
The road extends forever,
the city grows dimmer, never closer, and
the life seems to fade.
The roots of the dead tress creep closer,
pulling, clenching, drawing towards a muddy grave.
The cry of the crows rises to a high pitched wail.
The city begins to disapear in the distance.
I rush towards it,
but the nothingness is pulling me away.
