"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things." - Henry Miller

The sun rested comfortably on the ridged edge of the mountain,

it slid down the side of the uneven rock and beneath the tall pines,

taking with it the rays of colors that slowly followed behind.

The stars appeared one by one, illuminating life into the dimming sky,

while the campfire whirled warm air around and filled lungs with the sensation of adventure,

the crisp wind pushed softly against the fire, as small bursts of sparks flickered onto the chilled ground.

Smiling faces were made bright in the dark as flames swished gently from side to side,

the faces lit up with laughter at stories of travel and the occasional flaming marshmallow.

The lake rested peacefully in the distance, undisturbed as it reflected the now animated night sky,

the small scene unfolded among the ample amount of welcoming fresh trees,

and the moon watched from above, pleased with the harmonious display that drew liveliness into the delicate wild.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece because I enjoy traveling and have been extremely busy with school lately. And I've found that if I can't go places, the next best thing is to write about them.
