“City on the Water”
I stood astounded by the mass that lingered in front of me
With hesitance I ventured a bridge suspended high above
Ocean raging and swooshing against the docks beneath me
My family and I funneled into another world
The wind whirling behind me died away
The cool air-conditioning quenched my skin
Ahead of me lay a glass portal
Raising and lowering from floor to floor
Glowing lights illuminated the perimeter of the colossal foyer
It looked like a million lighting bugs had landed on the walls
The deeper I went, the more aromas I sensed
Fruit and tropical drinks met my nose the moment I walked onto the deck,
Umbrellas topped each glass, I guess in case it rained
The laughs and conversations of guests became muffled by the soothing oceanic air
As I peered over edge of the ship, I absorbed the scale of the massive ocean around me
I grasped the railing ahead, and it felt as though I had clutched a hot iron
With a quick gesture I withdrew my hands,
Took one last look and tasted the salty ocean air
As the ship began to depart from the port
