People are too quick to judge
Just by a look’s first glance.
Sometimes it’s based off rumors
Or things from their past.

When a kid is paired
With someone else in the class
The heavy sigh or grunt
Derives from his mouth
Coming from disappointment
Because this person is disapproving.

It’s times like these
That bring people together
A class project
A sports team
A seat on the train
A bus shelter in the rain.

People are too quick to judge
Someone who looks different
Smells different
Or doesn’t dress the same.

But I guarantee you
If you ask that person
What the hardest thing in his life is
He wouldn’t seem so bad
Because you’d begin to connect
Realize we’re all made up of chromosomes
Proteins and DNA

That that person is a person
And the only problem with that person
Under the bus shelter in the rain
Is the person sitting next to him.
