A Road To Home
Legs are like rocks
weighing me down
Arms so massive,
tiring me down
sinking into the car seat
Worries
fill my mind
Would we make it home?
How long would we have to wait?
What’s going to happen…
My eyes drawn towards the road
watching every detail pass me by.
I look to the dash
where it sits,
the map.
Staring at me.
All the details around me
blurred
trees dancing in and out of my vision
lines on the road seaming to jumble together
I looked towards my Grandma Jackie
“How long?”
Her eyes shifted to where the map sat
I gave a small grin
Leaning forward
I gripped my fingers tight around the binding,
not moving
not even budging.
Then it lifted
like a feather.
Gently setting it into my lap.
I open the page
marking home.
A glow from the sun
a red dot appears,
marking home.
Our destination seeming no where near,
worries in my mind
Grandma Jackie and I
feeling no where near home.
Tensions are high
Excitement in the air
Grandma Jackie and I
knew we were there
A pure beauty
An amazing sight
A smile on our faces,
finally here,
home
Home.
All the worries were gone
no fear to be seen
all we felt
was a warm home feeling.
Traveling is from one place
to another
Michigan to Colorado
and back again
home isn’t far away
there is no worries to be felt
it’s always close
but you can never fear
Home is in your heart.
It’s not a destination.
Grandma Jackie and I
A home together
A home forever
Grandma Jackie and I
