the divine experiment
the divine experiment
this wasn’t how it was supposed to be
as a little seed, I never realized this was how I would end up
my friends and family didn’t know either
we were the start of some sick person’s plan
the taller we grew, the more of us were taken
the brown, grimy claws grasped ahold
of everything I knew
everyone I knew
until I was extracted from the bunch as well
horrifying screams
filled the metallic contraption
we were churned
cut into slivers
only to become what they would call ‘purified’
they had made us one
and then they made us separate again
transporting us everywhere
we didn’t know our fates
the few strangers I had ended up with
all were shocked to see the sight
bustle, crowds, noises
it was all too much
although all of it was canceled out
when we entered a small box on the corner
my companions and I were dumped
and then combined with other beings
who trembled with fear
another claw came, but this time softer, rounder
creating us to be thick; invincible
but our thickness didn’t last
for a beige might had flattened our spirits
making us round
and unrolled our force
crimson liquid coated us
as we stood in horror
dairy of death
plants of poison
flesh of slaughter
covered us like a blanket
before we knew it
we were set in an inferno
a flaming room of intense heat
we expanded from the spell
and sat ablaze for an eternity
suddenly
the door of confinement had opened
allowing chill winds to flow through
we were safe
tan talons lifted us from the scorch
and set us on a vast cool plain
our lives to end by blade
blade as cold as steel
and as round as the moon
platter as clear as day waited
while circular blade began its torture
halves
fourths
eighths
now sixteenths
we were split and torn now
each one of us was placed on a platter
as our menacing creator
said two words
two words that would finish the process
“Order up!”
it called
our heavenly smell
our thick layers of cheese
meats and vegetables
our crunch of crust
this was our destiny
I am the divine experiment
I am pizza
