Dandelions
1. I didn't know that the yellow flowers you would hold under your chin to see if you liked butter and dandelions were the same thing.
2. I didn't know that when they cut down that tree the sky would look so vast, like there was no longer anything to interrupt it. crocuses popped out of the ground and I felt springtime underneath my fingernails.
3. I didn't know rain came from the clouds, but God was in the rain and you smelled like the rain and the air that comes from someone opening a door. Whenever I got scared God was in you.
4. I didn't know what dying felt like but all the wind got knocked out of my lungs and I found myself gasping for something that was no longer there. I imagine dying felt like losing you.
5. But I did know rainstorms and the names of wildflowers and breif, unadulterated glee. So maybe, I knew you.

I wrote a very rough version of this a while ago when a lot of icky stuff was happening. For some bizarre reason this specific piece always seems to help.
Hope it can do the same for anyone who needs it.
