Crushes
The first step
in love.
Is finding someone you like.
They don’t have to be attractive,
they don’t have to be smart,
they just have to be someone.
Somehow you click,
And you find them in your dreams.
Their face is etched on the fragile skin of
your eyelids.
Their voice is the one you listen for.
Somehow you find peace in them.
Somehow you open up.
Somehow you find yourself tripping,
head over heels.
And when you finally make that last stumble,
Sometimes you aim for their arms.
And sometimes they catch you.
But when you fall without them,
to catch and save you,
Reality comes crashing down on you.
Hard.
Crushed under the weight,
of the whole wide world it seems,
You find yourself ignoring them,
every light in your eyes extinguished,
As you deal with the pain,
of being crushed,
by your tiny,
little crush.
