Where I'm From
I am from the mountains.
From towering pines,
And shaggy grass fields.
I’m from a garden filled with spiders and delicious fare.
I am from old ski equipment
Sitting collecting dust.
From battered old newspapers
Waiting with forgotten headlines.
I am from Disney movies, old and new;
From Snow White to Frozen.
I am from a loud, loving family,
From feeding like a shark at Nana & Papa’s
To large feasts on special Holidays.
Dad’s italian stuffed peppers,
And Nana’s sweet cinnamony apple cake
Are always enjoyed
I am from a maze of boxes filled with old memories,
Pictures upon pictures,
Tons of old souvenirs from years of travel.
I’m from a desk in my room
filled assorted items from recent vacations.
I am from my critter companions.
From a rat, a cat, and two dogs.
The rat and cat absent for ten years now.
The first of dogs with me since my birth,
The other welcomed last Valentines Day.
I’m from many things,
Yet the most important is family.
An uncle so close to death two years ago,
Had me realize what matters most.
Him, and the rest of my family.
