Conquering "The Other" Side
Love is
A double-sided coin,
As all coins are.
One side,
Bright and warm as a summer afternoon,
And the other,
Dark and cold as a winter night.
One
Fills you to the brim
With a colourful sense of belonging,
And optimism glowing like the sun.
And the other,
Strips you of all emotions
Except confusion and despair
And a dull sense of being lost,
Like there's no place you can call home.
One
Pairs you with your special one.
Trials and tribulations are shared,
Happiness is doubled and pain, halved.
And the other
Does not leave you to cry
But also shaves away at your being
Until you become no more than
A piece of what you once used to be.
One,
With a whoosh,
Sends you and another up to dreamland,
Together forever.
And the other,
Crack! Shatters the heart
And sends you underwater
Where you can't breathe.
But
As life passes,
You realise that
Both black and white keys
On a piano are necessary
To produce a beautiful tune.
As life passes,
You realise,
Growth occurs at its best
When you fall.
You realise,
Growth has occurred
When you mend and get back up.
