Rapt reflective eyes dance upon the green.

Regal beings bow to their executors bravado.

Silhouetted shapes sever the moon beams.

Dark red cascades into the hands of the coveted.

Envious glances conspire to betrayal,

Exorbitant chaos enveloped in foreboding.

Agile creatures crumble back into their dens,

Adulation wispered to the ruby holding contenders.

Reposed extremities lay full of trepidation and squalor,

Dwindling remains curl up into themselves.

The uglies that are left reconcile and proliferate,

Until the reverie of night comes back,

Naive newborns tethered to their fate.

The author's comments:

I was inspired to write a poem unlike any I had written before. I challaged myself to expand my vocabulary. This is my favorite poem I have written so far in my life.
