I Understand How Batteries Feel
I Understand How Batteries Feel
Anissa Bredemeyer
I understand how batteries feel
Because I’m rarely included
In anything.
I understand how batteries feel
Because I’m constantly drained
Due to your childish games.
I understand how batteries feel
Because I seem to be
So disposable to you.
I understand how batteries feel
Because I get used
And then thrown away,
No second chance
To recharge
And become lively again.
I understand how batteries feel
Because I explode once in a while
And spew my mordant acid
And become a huge mess.
I understand how batteries feel
Because I can only light up someone’s life for a while
And then I’m trash.

When I was writing this, I felt very lonely and out of place. I didn't know where I fit in and I felt left out of a lot of activities with my friends. This is a poem that I'm sure most people can relate to at one point or another.
