I woke to the call

To find myself in a concert hall

Familiar performance played alive

Speaking the truth of life

Boom! The base drum roar

Sending reverberation throughout the hall

Expressing anger from a man,

Who might’ve tripped on a can?

Screech! The violin wail

Slowly and with detail

Conveying sorrow from a child,

Who might’ve lost in the wild?

Blast! The trumpet shout

Excitedly without doubt

Recounting the joy from a lady,

Who might’ve just gotten a baby?

I paused to ponder and smiled

As the emotions lingered for awhile

It is the way that we see life

While the performance played alive.

Reflection

In my poem, I use the “concert hall” to represent life as a metaphor. I also use the “performance” to represent different events in life. These events can be positive or negative as life is made up of ups and downs. We must learn to understand and appreciate this.

In the first stanza, I used ‘familiar’ and ‘woke to the call’ to show that the persona is part of the performance. He experienced and went through the ups and downs in life.

In the following three stanzas, I use three different pieces each played by three instrument. This is express three emotions, anger, sorrow and joy, which we experience during the events in life. In addition, I use question mark at the end of the stanza to show the possibility of events in life.

In the last stanza, I conveyed the message of the poem to the readers.
