Lake Blues
Though the lake is dark, it is not black.
The water is clear, just as your intentions.
Yet you blacken the water with any hatred spew.
You are slow to wash your tongue
And quick to any anger.
So there are onions on our breath
And dirt under our nails.
The blues sing us to sleep
Because we will never wake up.
