To all those boys who want to date my best friend
I am the best friend.
I may seem like another person but in a way
you should be more afraid of me than her parents.

Because if her parents disapprove of you
you become the “bad boy” and she become
the rebel for dating you.

But if I disapprove of you
you become the “wrong boy” and she becomes
less likely to date you.
I hold the power of counseling because I see
that she is the single most beautiful being
that needs to be treated better than anyone
but she also sometimes gets lost.
While she texts you, she is also texting me
for help on what to say. Be careful on what
you do to her because I will hear about it
and while she may be too shy to say anything
I however will say something.
I hear about every fight and I am the person
that holds her head up when she’s crying
over something she thinks is her fault but
really is yours.
Own up to your mistakes and she will too.
Don’t make her feel like every accident is her fault.
To all the boys that are dating my best friend
If you ask her to dinner then you better
help her into her chair
hold her hand
and pay for that meal
because if you do the right things
that meal will lead to a lifetime of shared ones.
She will trust you with everything she has
and you better be ready for the nights where
she can’t bear to look at herself because all she
hears are the mistakes of her past.

And when she does, tell her all the beautiful words
she saw in you in the beginning.
She deserves to be told from someone
other than me that she is someone else’s universe
that she holds galaxies in between her fingers
and her smile is like seeing the stars for the first time;
absolutely breathtaking.
To all the boys that have hurt my best friend

She shaped herself around you and now she has
no one. She keeps insisting that it was her fault
and no matter how many I tell her it wasn’t she
won’t hear it.
Because my comforting words don’t matter
after someone else said them to her then left.
She may be too afraid to speak your name
because of the pain that goes along with it.
But me?
I will find you and my hands will become
boulders that crash onto your face.
and my knee will become an arrow with
your groin as its target
You may not feel anything for her anymore
but sure as hell will for me.
And that is why I am the best friend.

To my best friend who was hurt by a boy
Stop shrinking yourself to fit into his pocket.
He won’t take you with him.
He may not want you anymore but I do.
I will hold you and believe in you when
you don’t .
You were about someone for a while
now you’re not.
Now you’re about you.
and I know that’s an unsatisfying feeling.

You’re going to want another person
to show him he made a mistake by
leaving you but what’s the use of
using someone who will leave as well?
Don’t use people to mark mistakes.
You were one person for a while.
A person shaped around him.

Now it’s time to change.
It’s time to wash him off
and put yourself on.
If life is about creating yourself
create yourself to be the person
you’ve wanted to be at this age.
When he sees you walking down
the street he shouldn’t think
“oh”
He should think
“damn.”
