qualities of dark

A night
spent alone
lets mind finger thought,
free pain,
reassure;
make strong
bleak
beliefs
trapped within.
A night
spent as body
must bring
silence,
no more simple,
with questions that mingle
in too many breaths
interspersed
in the air.
A night
spent at all
endures
as a thought
right or wrong,
which will linger
when stars perish
in the hands
of today.
