I want to be a star.
I want to stay in that one point in space, fixed for eternity.
I want to be luminous, incandescent, remote.
To know where I am and where I’m going,
Even if the sun and moon and planets around me don’t.
I want to be there for people to look at,
For them to connect me with the others around me
To create constellations as a pinpoint of light.
I want to be a star.
I want to be so big that I have my own gravity
The only thing that holds me together and can tear me apart.
And when I go, when I fall, I want to explode
With a supernova that leaves a mark, an impression, a matter-altering shift in space.
I want to be that shooting star that people wish on
To have that celestial mystery, even when I'm ending.
I want to be the faded glow that swirls against the black background
And be iridescent.
