Dearest angel
I am spellbound
By your sugar-coated lips

Eyelids that flutter
Two glowing embers
That melt my waxy heart

Smooth, soft skin
Caress my callused hands
Scarred, marred, and battered

The tears on my khakis
Reminders of your endless
Sleepless nights

So I promise
No more hellos
And long goodbyes

No more waiting
And wishing
And crying black ink

No more flags to wave
And faces to fake
Brave

Fingers entwined in
Your cappuccino
Ringlets

Your ear to my heart
Thump, thump
Thump

Our hearts in sync
Arms the branches
Of a cherry tree

I would stand there
For eternity
Holding you, loving you
And never again be lonely
