The Final Blow
As he shot the last
Of the enemies down
The gun, like his eyes
glistened in his valiant fingers,
An ostentatious grin
painting his face.
The soldier whirled around
And trudged homewards,
As swiftly as his wounded thigh
Would permit him to.
A day and a half after
The sounds of women crying could be heard
They flung themselves upon him,
But a heed he did not pay.
His feet made contact with
The iciness of the cubicle floor
From that moment on
Tenebrosity enveloped his senses.
A clock ticked.
The soldier wove through
The dense overgrowth
On and on until he reached
A graveyard beyond
A suffocating sheath so eerie.
Amongst the ghostly tomb stones
A single figure rose afar
The face a familiar silhouette.
As the soldier stared
An angst of terror shooting through,
When realisation dawned
It was the enemy he killed.
It opened its gruelling mouth
Voice echoing in an amplified boom-
What did you gain
In this battlefield of sorrow
When you could have lived
In peace and harmony?
Why did you choose
The actuality of war
Where there is everything to lose
And not a morsel to gain?
I say you go with caution thy bring
For in the long run you reprieve,
death will sing.
Live and let live.
The sun peeked out
From a dusky nimbus.
The soldier looked up,
Panting like a hungry dog
And froze in terror when
He read the words on his wall-
Live and let live.
