Expectations
I am surrounded
 By people who
Constantly feel the need to change
They are never happy or confident about how they look
 They were fine, though
They were fine before society tried to pull them under
 Since when was being underweight
 considered beautiful or fit
 Since when did starving themselves
depriving them of a necessity for life
 seem necessary
When did they ever say that they weren’t happy with how they looked?
When did they ever think that they needed to be skinny
 skinnier
 the skinniest
 Maybe society wanted everyone
 to be thin
 to be considered perfect
 Maybe society wanted everyone
 to believe
that looks are the only thing that matter
Maybe society wanted to define beauty
 and perfection
 as skinny
 But
 everyone was fine
 until society
 raised the expectations
 too high
for anyone to reach in a healthy way
 too high
 to let them believe
they were fine the way they were
 too high to let them
 feel beautiful
 feel perfect
 feel happy again
