Baby Shoes
I took out my baby shoes the other day
and compared them to the boots I wear now
the size difference was symbolic
but it wasn’t just a matter of how much I’d grown in size
it was a metaphor for how far I’ve come in life
how many battles I’ve won
how many tears I’ve cried
how many times I’ve stood up tall,
my head held high with confidence,
knowing I’d been victorious.
it was then I realized
life is a chainlink of little moments
that lead to great milestones
and those baby shoes
were my way of reflecting
on everything I’ve experienced
and every struggle I’ve fought through
one baby step at a time
