Savior

Going in to freshman year,
I needed a savior.
But I thought that that savior-
Could take on the form of an overweight sophomore boy
Who had all the right words,
But none of the right actions.
He saw my vulnerability and ran with it
Because there's nothing more appealing to a wolf than its prey
Separated from its pack
Nothing more appetizing than a girl whose innocence is still intact,
Just waiting for it to be stripped from her
And as I fell farther and farther from a true savior ,
I fell closer and closer to this monster who
Would whisper sweet nothings in my ear
but how sweet can a lie really be?

The author's comments:
During Freshman year I was diagnosed with clinical depression, and the boy I wrote this about played a huge role in why that year was so hard for me. I want others to be able to relate and feel comforted by this poem by realizing they aren't alone. I also want them to know that the true savior is God, and can't be found in people. But I really wrote this poem for myself, to forgive and forget this boy.
