Innocence

Light, happy steps,
Sprinkle down the hall,
In a gentle, excited manner,
That not a soul can deny,
As magnificently innocent.

“Daddy!”,
Her smooth, melodic voice,
Filters through the musty air,
Finding a stressed father,
In need of his perfect angel.

Her silky dark hair,
Curled softly from childish frolic,
Bounces wildly from side to side,
As she runs into the arms of her idol,
Her hero.

His sweet gem,
His priceless diamond,
Looks up,
With pure, heart-melting eyes,
Filled with happiness and calmness.

Her father’s eyes have seen,
Daunting secrets and truths,
Enough to last a lifetime and,
To want to hide his jewel,
From the truly dark, dull world.
