Our Fins
As I sit here,
splashing in the cool water
of a pool that was once huge,
I remember.
The days when we were
mermaids that came to life
in this sparkling water.
Revealing the secret
that was shared by only two;
Me and you.
The me remains,
but I'm no longer a mer-person.
My fin was ripped off
and legs were stitched on
before I was ready.
The you left,
too early.
You will never again
share the secret with me,
but at least
you got to keep
your fin.
