In an imperfect world
I would wake happy and prepared
I would perform athletically
As if my future didn’t depend on it
Coaches from far and near had offered me scholarships
And a ticket to a perfect future
In a perfect world I would refuse to believe
The time and commitment my parents invested in my sports
Would lead to addiction fueled by resentment
And in my world…
I haven’t the time for mistakes
There is only do or do better
Try or try harder
Win or die trying
Conclusively I have come to understand
My world is perfectly, imperfect
