Life on My Street

There is a place on this Earth
Where all can be
with life and liberty
and the right to be free
happiness to pursue
“the pursuit of happiness”
what a load of crap
what’s up with that?

The States United
founded on liberty
No. Founded on slavery
Through the Civil Rights Movement
from MLK to Malcolm X men of bravery

And here we are today
Much has changed
But much remains the same
Hardcore racism.
still Anti-color isms
Prejudiced remarks, chauvinism, sexism

Now, that’s where the law walks in
Affirmative action
Potential within
Not the pigment of our skin
Today it’s contemporary
And that must stay so
Until all chances are equal
No one above or below

For there to be poverty
There has to be people who’re wealthy
Those who say that poverty is an illness
Well I say to them with just a little bit of stillness
You need the education, sir
Cuz things are about to change from are to were

Affirmative action
from the zero opportunity
to a higher chance of a life of quality
you argue that it takes away
this so-called meritocracy
and robs you of your right to passive immunity

So I say to you.

Inequality means unbalanced opportunity
Affirmative action will bring some more equality
A little small fee from the majority
A fee you can pay
to help the minority
What say you?
“What about those white males? What will they do?”
Some will be bumped off the easy way paved
to do some work that many have braved

Instead of living on easy street
You can live on my street.

People walking hand in hand
Up the steep mountain incline
They watch as you climb down
and join the work to the goal line

Everybody!
Take a step towards equality
and re-obtain the
always passing-by
missed opportunity

The majority, you know who you are
Take a step forward and take a step back
Do the right thing, kudos to Spike Lee
Affirmative action
Right now is what we need.
