Waking Up
waking up
with my head next to yours
and the late morning sun
peeking from between the blinds
drawing lines across the sheets
and the dust
lit up like microscopic stars
swirling slowly in the lazy air
i think of saturday mornings
rolling across your bed, giggling
falling on the soft carpeted floor
watching your eyelids
peel open
lashes almost reluctant to leave the other side
the corners of your lips
turn up
crinkles by your eyes as you see me
it’s the same
now, years later
waking up
with my head next to yours
if only you could wake up
again
and smile the same way
