Gateway of Heaven
Welcome to middle school.
Where girls whisper behind your back,
Boys make dirty innuendos,
And bullying is just another part of life.
The rumors that spread like a disease,
The pushing and shoving in the halls,
The lunches spent in a bathroom stall,
The people knocking them down day after day
And after each day,
They come home.
They lock their rooms shut,
And let the pain bleed out.
The crimson red liquid drips onto the floor,
No one hearing the silent weeping echoing in the silent halls
Their friends just laugh at the scars,
Their parents turn their heads and pretend not to notice
And one day,
The final straw is broken.
A backhanded comment,
And they turn to the speaker slowly.
They walk up to the bully,
The one that started it all,
They look them dead in the eyes, and roll up their sleeves.
They point at the scars and say,
“This is because of you”
The bully looks at them.
Their eyes drip with pity and sorrow,
And the victim walks away.
The next day, there are no comments.
The victim looks around,
Waiting to be picked on,
But others look at them in respect.
A girl walks up to the victim.
“Why do you look so confused?” she asks.
“No one is making fun of me,” the victim replies,
“And I don’t know how to react.”
The girl smiles, and takes his hand.
“Heaven’s Angels can’t be mean to you,” she whispers.
“The Gateway welcomes you”
