Feelings of confusion,
Swim around my mind.
I cannot tell what's right,
Or what's not worth my time.

Things are to be said,
But never to be done,
They take over my head
Slowly one by one.

It builds until there's pain,
Then there's nothing left to do,
But to sit back and relax
And let this monster tear me through.

It penetrates my chest,
Explores deep into my soul,
Breaks the lock to all my secrets,
To accomplish it's final goal.

I attempt to break this curse,
By swallowing my fears,
But I know there's no way out,
So I stay hidden behind these tears.

The author's comments:
I've suffered from anxiety for the majority of my life. The past two years it has been noticeably worse, causing me to miss school and time with my friends. I've tried many different things to help the struggle, and many have worked temporarily, but am still trying to find ways to manage it more effectively. One of the many things I do to cope with it is write songs or poems to express the way I feel. This is the most effective method I have tried to help me when feeling anxious.
