The Fourth of July,
A day of celebration
School's out
Summer's here
Life is good.
Popsicles, slowly melting,
Dripping,
Soothe parched mouths.
Fireworks,
Bursting in mid air and emanating
A myriad of dazzling hues,
An explosion of colors
That light up the night.
Sparklers burn bright,
Sparks soaring
In the sticky, summer air.
Red, white, blue in the sky
A look of freedom in our eyes.
Suddenly the colors begin to die,
And all we see are fireflies.
