(Infatuation is the most fatal of flaws)

Under a canopy of trees
Perching at the edge of a clear, aquamarine lagoon,
I luxuriate in my feline grace.

Among the scattered jade bamboo shoots,
I regard my mesmerizing viperous allure,
My dazzling malignant seduction.

These brilliantly spellbinding azure chasms,
This hypnotizing, luminous ivory coat, covered in ebony veins.

A drizzled, onyx-hued muzzle that searches for vitality,
Jagged tawny stained incisors that lacerate muscle.

Soft, feather-like paws
That serrate in a single instant.

This deadly allure draws many in,
Like a siren's call leading sailors to their demise.

And yet, you believe in me,
In ability to be gentle against my own nature.

Modifying me into something I'm not
And can never be.

(Vulnerability is the most deceptive of tricks)

You have this infatuation, this obsession
With things beautiful and corrupted.

So bewitched by my charm
You fail to notice my claws.

I'm destructive,
and I love catastrophically.

The author's comments:
I was given a poetry assignment in my Ap-English class. I spent a week and a half just staring at my planning sheet. The night before it was due, I sat down and forced myself to write it completely. I didn't think it was anything special at the time. After sitting with my teacher and talking about it, I started to actually connect and learn to love this poem.
