Watching

The hawk soars
Through the sapphire sky.
The beetle marches
Through the jade grass.
The gazelle leaps
Through the amber sunlight.
The Lion crouches
Behind the moonstone rock,
Watching,
Waiting.

The chimpanzee flies
Through the emerald leaves.
The toucan caws
Into the onyx night.
The antelope frolics
Through the field of ruby flowers
The Leopard sneaks
Behind the topaz tree.
Watching,
Waiting.

The turtle glides
Through the aquamarine current.
The starfish slumbers
Amidst the amethyst sea anemones.
The fish darts
Through the opal coral.
The Shark hides
In the obsidian shadows,
Watching,
Waiting.

"I am lurking
Behind the gemstones of life.
I am watching.
I amwaiting.
But the question remains:
Will you see me
Before it's too late?"

The question whispers
On the diamond wind,
Clear as crystal.
My reply slithers back
Through the empty tunnel.

"Probably not."

The author's comments:
I really enjoyed writing this poem. It started out as an English project, and I just wanted to get it over with. But as I started writing it, I got excited and it turned into something I cared about and something I'm proud of.
