Exploration
My ever faithful companion and I traipsed through fallen leaves.
Air chilly beneath my jacket.
Ambled over fallen logs.
Breeze rustling my ponytail.
Skirting muddy puddles.
Echoing creaks of snapping twigs.
Searching for any unexplored area.
Reek of moist dirt filling my mind.
Weaving all across, determined to find something new.
Foliage every shade of green imaginable.
Climbing up steep hills.
Scurrying of animals surround.
Impossible to find the exact source.
Balancing on every branch large enough.
Stale ravine taste filling my mouth.
Surroundings ever changing.
Where am I?
Trees lose their individuality.
All looking the same.
“Spencer, let’s go home.”
My fellow explorer waits for me to lead.
But which way is home?
I’ve spun too many times to remember which way I came.
Hiking up and through a yard.
Hopefully I know how to get home from here.
I’m so lost.
I ask a seemingly nice old man for directions.
Offered a ride, I gratefully accept.
Clamboring into the covered cab, strangely greenish truck, my new chauffeur.
Spencer travels beside me. I point out home.
Rose of Sharons lining the sidewalk
The worn white porch waiting for my return.
Our 3 story green house, large pine trees obscuring the view.
“Thank you so much. I would have been lost for hours.”
Time to tell of my new adventure.
